Barry Town United have confirmed their retained list for the 2026-27 Cymru Premier season, with 13 players set to return after finishing third last term with 46 points from 32 games. The club’s goalkeeper of the year, George Ratcliffe, and his deputy Joe Thomas will remain, along with captain Callum Sainty and midfielder Mikey George, who recently made his 200th appearance for the club.
Who is staying at Barry Town?
The retained squad includes central defenders Keston Davies and Will Richards, midfielders Ellis Williams and Owen Cuddihy, and St Kitts and Nevis international Theo Wharton, who is in his second spell with the club. Last summer’s signings Josh Bernard, Dan Barton, Dan Smith, and Rhys Schwank, who has struggled with injuries, are also staying. The club continues to support midfielder Eliot Richards, who stepped away from football earlier this year to focus on his cancer treatment.
Who has left Barry Town?
Three players have departed, with striker Ieuan Owen joining Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock on a two-year deal, while Ollie Hulbert has moved to English National League South club Weston-super-Mare. Defender Ben Margetson has switched to local rivals Merthyr. Additionally, experienced midfielder Robbie Willmott has retired to become manager of Cymru South club Newport City, and Ryan Kavanagh has hung up his boots after an ACL injury last October. Loan players Keenan Patten and Jac Norris have returned to Newport County.
What’s next for Barry Town?
Manager Steve Jenkins is expected to make new signings in the coming weeks as the club prepares for pre-season training in July. Barry Town will begin their campaign with an away fixture against Penybont on October 9, 2026. The team ended last season with a goal difference of +10, scoring 43 goals while conceding 33, and will look to close the 34-point gap to league leaders The New Saints.
