Barry Town United secured their third consecutive win in the Cymru Premier, defeating Cardiff Met 1-0. The match, which featured nearly 800 fans, was the first live BBC iPlayer broadcast from the Cymru Premier. Despite the loss of central defenders Callum Sainty and Will Richards, Barry Town showed resilience and tight defense, with goalkeeper George Ratcliffe keeping a clean sheet. Trinidad & Tobago international James Lester also made his competitive debut for the team.
The first half was evenly matched, with both teams cancelling each other out. Barry striker Jadyn Crosbie had a chance to open the scoring after 30 minutes, but his shot went over the bar. Cardiff Met forward Fumpa Mwandwe also had an opportunity, but his effort went wide of the near post. Theo Wharton won possession for Barry, but Elliott Dugan's effort was saved by the goalkeeper.
The second half saw Barry create more chances. Owen Cuddihy's pass to substitute Jack Shaw led to a good opportunity, but Shaw's final effort went over the bar. Cardiff Met also had a chance when Mwandwe's cross was headed wide by Toby Raison.
Barry's winning goal came in the 80th minute. Following a half-cleared corner, Dan Barton was fouled in the box by Mwandwe. Jack Shaw's penalty, aimed at the keeper's right, was saved by Aaron Davies. However, the rebound was saved by Davies, and the ball bounced up in the air, where Dan Smith headed it into the net, scoring his second goal at Jenner Park this season.
Barry Town United will travel to newly promoted Holywell Town for their next match on Friday, August 21, at 7:45 pm.
