| Barry Town United will have a simplified version of VAR that is set to be introduced in the Novira Cymru Premier. From the 2026/27 season, the league will utilize VAR Light, a FIFA-certified system designed to rectify clear errors and missed incidents by on-field referees.
The system, less comprehensive than the full VAR, will feature a Video Assistant Referee at each club's Video Operation Room (VOR). The assistant will control replays and communicate with the on-field referee regarding potential reviews. The system will employ four core cameras - two at the halfway line and one at each penalty area line.
VAR Light will intervene in five game elements: goals and disallowed goals, penalty area incidents, straight red cards, factually incorrect second yellow cards, and instances of mistaken identity. Each goal will undergo VAR checks, while challenges or decisions within the 18-yard box will be scrutinised.
The on-field referee will still make the final decision after reviewing the incident on the pitch-side monitor. The VAR can only make recommendations. The aim is not to re-referee the game; the VAR can only make recommendations.
Barry Town United's next fixture is vs Trefelin at home on October 30, 2026, where they are currently 16th in the table.
