Barry Town enters a new era in the expanded 16-team Cymru Premier
Barry Town United begins the 2026/27 season in a transformed Cymru Premier, now featuring 16 teams and a fresh format. Currently sitting third in the league with 46 points from 32 games (12W-10D-10L), the Yellows face a revamped structure that promises new challenges and opportunities.
What’s changed in the league format?
The old 12-team system is gone, replaced by a 16-team league with eight northern and eight southern sides. Barry Town will now face new opponents like Ammanford, Cambrian United, and Holywell Town for the first time in top-flight action. The season starts with a full home-and-away round-robin (30 games), followed by a split into three conferences: Championship (top 6), Play-Off (7th-10th), and Relegation (11th-16th).
How does the split work for Barry Town?
After 30 games, Barry Town could find themselves in any of the three conferences. If they finish in the top six, they’ll compete in the Championship Conference, playing each rival once more (35 games total). A mid-table finish lands them in the Play-Off Conference (33 games), while a lower-half position means the Relegation Conference. Points carry over, so every match matters from day one.

The European play-offs return, now featuring the top Championship Conference teams not already qualified, plus the Play-Off Conference winner. With Wales securing three European spots, Barry Town could still target the UEFA Conference League via the play-offs.
